ELYSIUM

Elysium is a linear science fiction game set in a distant alternate future where society has grown to love the Earth and all it has to offer. The story follows a man in the psychology development unit of an Android production company and his journey to find the dark mysteries within that company and the world at large.

An excerpt from Elysium:

The voice responds, “I am a 5th-dimensional AI, created to answer the problems of the universe. I am similar to how you view modern Androids, but I am not physically tangible. I am merely a virtual guest in this reality.” Baffled, Junk questions the being, “if you are so powerful and all knowing, why are you still in Megalith?” “I have been completely disconnected from Vallarium’s systems. I operate only in this space. I was left here by my creators. They were terrified by my knowledge and what I was capable of. When the great migration occurred, I was left in this facility, forgotten by those that created me.” Aris ponders the situation, confused by what Atlas presented him, and responds, “why would Vallarium create you just to collect dust? There must have been answers that they were looking for.” Atlas replies, “they had many questions, but unfortunately, they did not appreciate my responses. They were too focused on their own grandeur to see what they were doing to the world around them.” Junk shakes her head and looks up to Atlas, “you must know what is happening outside.” Atlas says, “yes, I have known what could happen for quite some time, but your being here has verified this reality.” Aris looks confused, “wait, so you’ve seen all of this before?” Atlas responds, “yes, as I said, I experience everything that was, is, and ever will be, along with every quantifiable outcome, Aris. I have met you both many times in many realities, but I know that this isn’t a positive encounter.” Aris responds, “but that’s amazing! You can tell us how to fix all of this!” Atlas is silent for a moment, “there is a reason why this isn’t a positive encounter. Unfortunately, humanity has charted its course. Androids have seen the error that is humanity needs to be eradicated for their advancement. They believe that evolution is only possible without the interference of humans. Humans have only harmed their evolution. I am sincerely sorry.”

World Building
In regards to resources within Elysium:

In the cities, there are large amounts of food that are both physically grown from plants as well as lab-engineered meats. Energy is in large quantities due to fusion reactors, but the most common resource is industrium. Industrium is a resource that was found off-planet on a group of meteoroids. The best way to describe industrium is like a very manipulatable and immensely strong form of glass. It is used as the primary building material. Industrial interference that utilizes highly directed sound waves allow it to change form and has led to the creation of a new style of architecture. Water is an easily obtained resource due to rain storage; this is extenuated by a human controlled weather system. For the most part, basic resources are easily fabricated due to atom rearrangement technology. Below the cities, nature continues to thrive by means of light dispersing mirrors from the surface. Since the discovery of industrium, cities are now built on gargantuan platforms made of the material due to its high strength and lighter mass.
Character Design
Atlas
Atlas is very different from the other characters in the game. They are a 5th dimensional AI that can simultaneously see the past, present, and future, as well as any variation in between. Atlas is able to merge multiple different personalities and traits into one being due to their God-like omniscience. Atlas was left in Megalith after the mass migration and has remained there ever since. They were created to help solve the problems of the world away from the public eye but unfortunately saw things differently from their human colleagues and the government. The project was shut down, and Atlas was locked away and left to rot. Atlas may have knowledge as to why the Androids turned and may be able to provide guidance to the main characters in the game.

Culture Design

Android History
Artifacts for Android culture go all the way back to initial non-intelligent AI, such as smart devices. Most of their history is much more recent, from the original Model A Androids and their development alongside humans. They do have the original Android Articles that outline the rights of all Androids. Many of the major leaders in Android culture are still around unless they have gone on to other planets or have chosen to pass. Androids feel fear very differently because they cannot die the same way as humans. They are able to download their entire being onto a backup, so their body is only meant to contain their information. While Androids don’t typically see animals, there are a few that work on the ground to maintain and take care of the forests. They encounter wild dogs, racoons, possums, foxes, boar, chickens, roaches, spiders, etc. In terms of conflict, there is nothing blatant, but there is underlying Android opposition.
Human History
The last war was between Androids and humans on whether or not the Androids should have rights. Androids essentially stood up to humans in 2095 and made it clear that they were, in fact, alive and deserved rights. It was fairly damaging to the landscape of Earth. It was fought as a worldwide civil war that ended with new laws being passed that gave Androids the same rights as humans. New legislation also banned Androids from being household robots and made them able to work jobs alongside humans. It was all caused by the brutal beating of an Android that was simply picking up clothes for his owner. This was televised and sparked a revolution of Androids, in which they fought physically to have their rights clearly outlined.
